What Is the Regenexx Patented Same-Day Stem Cell Protocol?

The complete protocol actually takes place over the course of a week or so, but the stem cells are harvested and reinjected into the patient on the same day.

The protocol begins with a preinjection, which is followed by the stem cell extraction and reinjection procedure described above. A few days after that procedure, we will administer a post-injection of multiple proprietary platelet mixes.

When you arrive for your same-day stem cell procedure, your blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm. Your doctor will then numb the back of your hip in order to take a small bone marrow sample using a needle. Termed a bone marrow aspirate, it’s how we extract stem cells for your procedure, and patients report that it’s not as painful as a bone marrow biopsy.

We encourage our patients to relax while their cells and blood sample are being processed by one of our Regenexx lab technicians. The second step of the procedure involves the doctor reinjecting your stem cells and natural growth factors from your blood platelets. He or she will use advanced imaging guidance, such as real-time fluoroscopy or musculoskeletal ultrasound, along with your MRI, to accurately inject the stem cells into the precise area that requires repair. This technique also helps improve the dispersion of the cells into the tissues. The main aim is to deliver much greater numbers of stem cells to your affected joint than your body would be able to deliver on its own.

Unlike most physicians’ offices, we don’t use the average automated centrifuge for our bone marrow stem cell procedures. We have created our own revolutionary device that extracts about four times the stem cells a centrifuge can.
